Delta Air Lines kicks off tomorrow (February 12), their nonstop service between Iceland and the United States. This is three months earlier than in previous years. In May Delta will add a route between Reykjavík and Minnieapolis/St. Paul. In total Delta will provide 15 weekly flights during the summer from Iceland to the United States, all operated in conjunction with Air France KLM.
Delta has been connecting Iceland and the United States for five consecutive years during the peak summer months but this year the U.S. airline will begin its daily seasonal nonstop service between Keflavik International Airport and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport on February 12. According to a newsrelease an eighth frequency will then be added on May 29, offering two flights on Sundays for more than three months. All flights will be operated by a Boeing 757-200 aircraft.
The New York service will be followed by the launch of a new flight from Keflavik to Minneapolis/St Paul on May 27, 2016 – the first time Delta has operated this route.
“With Iceland becoming an increasingly popular destination for U.S. travellers, we are adding more flights in 2016 to meet demand, increasing capacity by 101% percent versus 2015,” said Nat Pieper, Delta’s SVP-EMEA. “We’re also very pleased to be marking our fifth anniversary by adding a new destination, offering even more choice for travel between our nations.”
Delta's flight departure from New York-JFK is at 21.20 (9.20 pm) with arrival in Reykjavík (Keflavík International Airport) at 8.00 am next day. Departure from Reykjavik is at 9.35 am with arrival in New York (New York-JFK) at 10.45 am.
