Musician Björk Guðmundsdóttir credits British music legend David Bowie as the person who inspired her to wear the iconic swan dress to the 73rd Academy Awards in 2001. The dress, designed by Macedonian designer Marjan Pejoski, was criticised for weeks after the event but is now widely considered one of the most iconic red-carped dresses of all time.
“RIP David Bowie. It is true that he was the one who inspired me to wear my swan dress at the Academy Awards. He told me I always wondered what you would look like as a bird laying eggs,” read Björk’s tribute to Bowie, who passed away on Sunday.
