The Danish Meteorological Institute’s super computer is finally up and running in Iceland, reports Vísir. The computer, weighing 14 tonnes, is located in the Icelandic Met Office’s data-centre in Reykjavík. The DMI chose to install the super computer in Iceland due to cost efficiency, green energy and favourable climate conditions.

This is the first joint venture between two national meteorological centres. It took over a year to install the computer which has computational power about ten times higher than previous systems, enabling it to better predict severe weather phenomena.
