The Daily Mail published yesterday images of the ongoing Holuhraun eruption in central Iceland, shot by Icelandic photographer Tómas Freyr Kristjánsson. The magnificent shots were captured by Tómas Freyr in early September last year.

Tómas Freyr and fellow photographer Sumarliði Ásgeirsson travelled to the eruption site only days after the volcano erupted on behalf of Skessuhorn newspaper. The area has been closed to the public since the eruption’s inception due to the high levels of sulphur dioxide. However, selected members of the press and scientists have been allowed to enter the eruption site.
