This photo, taken by Pjetur Sigurðsson, shows pupils at Reykjavík Grammar School, MR, playing football (soccer) on a frozen Tjörnin lake in down-town Reykjavík, during PE class.

Menntaskólinn í Reykjavík, MR, is the country’s oldest junior college, tracing its origins back to 1056, when a school was established in Skálholt, one of Iceland’s two episcopal sees.

It is not uncommon to see the school’s students playing football in or jogging around Hljómskálagarður park during PE classes.
