Cream cheese sales soared in December, thanks to a popular dip called eðlan, or the lizzard, which high school students munched on while studying for their Christmas exams. The dip contains cream cheese, salsa sauce and grated cheese which is then heated and enjoyed with crisps.
According to Mbl.is, sales increased by 25 percent in December.
“It seems as though high school students came upon the dip this autumn. I’ve been told it became somewhat of a fad,” explained Aðalsteinn H. Magnússon, head of sales at MS, Iceland’s largest dairy company.
