The Metropolitan Police arrested a man in a supermarket just outside downtown Reykjavík early Sunday morning. The local news site Vísir describes the man as having been in a peculiar state, and is suspected of property damages.

The incidence took place in the Hagkaup grocery store in Eiðistorg mall in the Seltjarnarnes suburb on the west edge of Reykjavík. Police was called in to calm or subdue a man who was disturbing other customers and harassing staff. When police arrived at the scene the man seemed to become even more agitated, attacking officers with chocolate Easter eggs.

Despite being pelted with chocolate eggs the officers managed to subdue the man. He was taken to the station where he was allowed to sleep off his rage.

No officers suffered serious injuries from the eggs, but the Easter egg display was destroyed and numerous eggs left smashed. No news yet as to what prompted the strange outburst. However, scenes of children losing their composure in front of the Easter egg displays of Icelandic supermarkets do grow in frequency as Easter nears.
