The three courageous cats that woke their owner during a house fire in Ásbrú, Reykjanes peninsula, yesterday, by clawing at the bedroom door, have regained their strength and have been reunited with their family.

Erla Arnardóttir was putting her young daughter to bed yesterday morning when she noticed one of her three cats clawing and crying incessantly at the bedroom door.

“Which is very out of character,” Erla told Vísir. “When I open the door the apartment is full of smoke and I quickly realise what has happened. So, I grabbed hold of my daughter and ran out.”

The three cats, named Felix, Hnoðri, and Mylla, were rescued soon after by firefighters, received first aid care and rushed to the veterinary clinic. All three were recovering nicely when Erla visited them later that afternoon and were happy to be reunited with their human family.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire quickly, but the apartment was left damaged by the smoke and fire. According to information from the Reykjanes Fire Department, a pot of boiling water, used to warm a baby’s bottle, was left on the stove and caught on fire once the water evaporated.
