A couple who came to the rescue of an American family after they crashed their car into the sea in north-west Iceland on 18 August, have welcomed the family into their home for the remainder of their trip, reports Vísir.
Einar Magnússon and Bryndís Sævarsdóttir had been picking berries near Vattarfjörður in the Westfjords when they arrived at the scene of the accident. Francisco Calara had managed to save the couple’s young son from the sinking car when Einar and Bryndís arrived. They rushed to the assistance of Elma Calara, who at that time had managed to escape the car but was still battling for her life in the sea.
According to reports, Mr. Calara had fallen asleep at the wheel. The family had decided to take on the long drive to Iceland’s Westfjords after a red-eye flight from the States.
Einar and Bryndís invited the Calara family to stay the remainder of their trip in their home in Reykjanesbær in south-west Iceland. Einar tells that a strong bond has formed between the two families and he and his wife plan to visit the Calara family soon.
