Cornell University presents Iceland with an award for global leadership in promoting the use of renewable energy 2000

Cornell University has presented Iceland's president. Ólafur Grímsson, and the people of Iceland with the first-ever Atkinson Center Award for Global Leadership in Sustainable Development for promoting the use of renewable energy worldwide while reducing its own reliance on fossil fuels.

The president accepted the award on behalf of the nation last Friday when he visited the American Ivy League university and delivered a public lecture about Iceland’s innovative sustainable energy and economic policies as part of the Mario Einaudi Center for International Studies Foreign Policy Distinguished Speaker Series.
