Considerable volcanic pollution expected south and southwest of Holuhraun this weekend 2267

This weekend substantial volcanic pollution from the eruption in Holuhraun is expected in South Iceland. According to the interactive map by the Icelandic Met Office (IMO) the pollution will drift over an area from town Höfn in the east to Eyjafjallajökull glacier in the west.

Town Höfn has been hit hard this week with sulfur dioxide pollution measuring above 1,300 micrograms per cubic metre according to RÚV. Air pollution levels above 2,600 micrograms can cause harm to people’s health.
