DeCode, a Reykjavík based company that analyses and understands the human genome, recently sent over one-hundred thousand Icelanders a package containing a questionnaire and single use swabs for specimen collection. This is done in a bid to try and determine the genetics of diseases and use that information to created new means of diagnosing and treating those diseases.
Individuals partaking in the research must collect their own specimen sample with the swap provided and return it to members of local rescue units which will go from door to door collecting the package.
Kári Stefánsson, the company‘s CEO, maintains it is a matter of importance to expand the company’s sample group as it will give researches more exact results which is of primary importance to their work.
