Cold spell passing over the country is going nowhere. “Snow is here to stay,” according to meteorologist 2063

A considerable amount of snow fell in the Greater Capital area last night. Maintenance crews have been working to clear main roads of snow since 4 am this morning. Most major roads have become passable.  Crews will begin to clear residential streets of snow later today. Police advises motorists to drive with caution as roads can be slick.

Meteorologist Teitur Arason told local news website Vísir that the cold spell passing over the country is going nowhere. “The snow is here to stay,” he said.

It will remain frosty for the rest of the week. The south and west will see thick clouds today and occasional snowfall while the north and the east will stay clear and sunny. Minimum temperature -12 degrees Celsius (10 Fahrenheit).

Friday: Cloudy day in all regions and slowly becoming windier along the south coast. Some snowfall expected in the north and east. Mininum temperature -7 degrees (19 Fahrenheit) in the east.
