City officials expect that all streets and major walking paths will have been cleared of snow by the end of the week. All major traffic arteries were plowed clear on Monday, but snow plows are still busy clearing residential streets in the suburbs. Major walking paths are also in the process of being plowed.

A spokesman form Reykjavík City told the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service that the city is working as fast as it can. All available snow plows are in use, and all available personnel is working on cleaning streets of snow.

Temperatures might creep above freezing next week
The weather forecast for the remainder of the week and over the weekend promises continued beautiful winter weather. By next week, however, we can expect to start see warmer temperatures.

On Friday we can expect light northerly wind and clear skies, except in East Iceland where we can also expect some snow showers. The temperature will remain around freezing near the coast, but colder inland.

On Saturday, gentle breeze, clear skies, except in South East and East Iceland, where some show showers can be expected. Temperatures will range from -7°C to 0°C (19-32°F)

On Sunday, fresh breeze, by the south coast, but lighter wind in other parts of Iceland. Snow showers and temperatures around freezing by the south and east coast. Elsewhere partly cloudy, dry and mild frost.

By Monday and Tuesday temperatures can be expected to rise above freezing. On Monday snow showers will be replaced by sleet, especially in South East Iceland. On Tuesday, gentle breeze, and precipitation, snow or sleet depending on temperature, and on Wednesday the sleet will start to turn into rain.
