English actor Christopher Eccleston stars in Sky’s new crime drama, Fortitude, which was partially filmed in Reyðarfjörður town, East Iceland. This was Eccleston’s second time filming in country; He played the part of Melekith in the adventure film Thor: The Dark World which was also filmed in Iceland. In an interview with the Irish Examiner the actor claims to be keen to get back out to Iceland.

“I did Thor Two, whatever it was called… Dark Underpants or something… but I had a much better time on Fortitude. I much preferred the locations that we shot in, I had a much better script, and I wasn’t in prosthetic make-up for eight hours every day. And I wasn’t a naughty elf. I was a naughty elf in the bar on Fortitude, but I wasn’t a naughty elf on set,” he said.

Despite the nightly displays of Northern Lights, the quality of air and the beautiful surroundings, the thing Eccleston misses the most is the local pub.
“It had some great beers — Icelandic beers — and we all tried the local stuff. There are some serious drinkers in Iceland, and some serious drinkers in the cast of Fortitude, it has to be said.”
The 12 episode drama also stars academy award nominee Stanley Tucci, Michael Gambon, and Sofie Grabol and will air on January 29.
