The first weekend after the Christmas beer is released always sees long lines at the stores, as people rush in to stock up on their favourite brews and sample the new varieties offered this year. Last year the sales over the first weekend topped 100,000 litres (21,000 gallons), the local newspaper Morgunblaðið reports. The total sale of Christmas beer last year was 670,000 litres (147,000 gallons).
The selection has never been larger. According to an announcement on the web page of ÁTVR the stores will offer 34 different varieties of Christmas beer this year.
