A young Chinese woman in her 20s was pronounced dead at the site of yesterday's bus accident. Twelve people were airlifted by the Icelandic Coast Guard to the National University Hospital in Reykjavík. Several of these are still in critical condition.

Forty four passengers were in the tour bus, all Chinese travellers on a day trip along the South Coast. The driver of the bus was Icelandic. The driver is among the injured.
The accident took place shortly after eleven yesterday afternoon about 6 km (3.7 mi) west of the village Kirkjubæjarklaustur in South East Iceland.

In the accident the bus rolled over, landing on its side next to the road. At least two passengers were thrown out of the bus during the accident. The two passengers were pinned beneath the bus. They were taken to the National University Hospital after first responders managed to get them loose.
The Ring Road remained closed until nine yesterday evening while ICE-SAR, police and paramedics were working at the scene. More than 60 members of ICE-SAR companies in South and South East Iceland participated in the operation, along with all available police and paramedics.
