Chinese travellers most likely to get into car accidents in Iceland 6000

Most of the foreign travellers involved in car accidents in Iceland in 2015 were Chinese, followed by American travellers. In 2016 35 Chinese travellers were involved in car accidents in Iceland and 28 Americans. Figures from the Icelandic Transportation Authority show that travellers from France were involved in 20 accidents, and 13 Italian drivers and 11 Canadians. Drivers from other nations were involved in fewer than ten accidents in 2016

Comparing the number of accidents is compared to the number of travellers from each country shows that Chinese travellers are far more likely to be involved in an accident than others. Roughly 7 out of every 100,000 travellers from America will be involved in a car accident, compared to 55 out of every 100,000 from China.

Two travellers died in road accidents in 2016, compared to five travellers in 2015. Instead the number of other serious accidents increased from 26 to 47. A total of 223 foreign travellers were injured in car accidents in 2015. Most of the accidents were caused by difficult driving conditions, snow or ice, or mistakes by the driver.
