Copenhagen based-Chilean artist Marco Evaristti was acquitted of vandalism charges for dyeing Strokkur hot spring with red fruit dye, reports the National Broadcasting Service.

The act upset many Icelanders who accused the artist for defacing Iceland’s delicate nature. Eventually, Geysir’s landowners reported Evaristti to the police, accusing him of vandalism.

The acquittal came from Suðurland county court which noted that Evaristti’s actions had not permanently damaged Strokkur. The state will pay all legal costs following the acquittal.
