Central Interior roads closed due to wet soil 818

Large quantities of snow from last winter has created adverse conditions for roads in Iceland's central highlands. The lingering snow has made the roads unsafe for driving as the wet conditions make the unpaved, gravel surfaces vulnareble for traffic.

Some central highland roads are able to receive traffic, but due to the influx of tourists during June, it was decided that keping the major highlands roads closed would be the safe option.

The good news is that the majority of central highland roads are expected to open up at the beginning of July. To track the availability of Iceland's roads, one can reference the The Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration website.
