Icelandic women celebrate 100 years of suffrage tomorrow, 19th of June. On that day in 1915, Icelandic women gained the parliamentary vote. However, the right to vote was only given to women over forty years of age. Five years later the suffrage laws were modified and women got the same rights as men.

In celebration of the women's suffrage centennial, countless events will take place around Reykjavík.

The women’s choir Domus Vox will perform at Lækjargata street at 3.10pm. A formal ceremony takes place at Austurvöllur (in front of the parliament building) between 4 pm and 5 pm.

The performance piece ‘Með eld í brjósti’ (With fire in my heart) opens in City Hall at 5 pm. While the exhibition ‘Hvað er svona merkilegt við það?’ opens in the National Museum of Iceland at 3pm. And an exhibition dedicated to seafaring women opens in the Maritime Museum at 11 am.
