Car manufacturer Land Rover and British automobile journalists have gotten themselves in hot water in Iceland. The British car manufacturer, now owned by Indian company Tata Motors, has invited automobile journalist from around the world to Iceland to test drive the new Land Rover Discovery Sport.
Last weekend British publication The Sunday Times (paywall) published online a story about one such trip and included a video from the journey. Regrettably for all parties, Icelandic nature included, the video showed Land Rover cars being driven off-road and tearing up ground in a Reykjanes peninsula's nature reserve. The incriminating video has now been taken down but RÚV.is managed to make a copy before.
Off-road driving is strictly forbidden in Iceland and the Environment Agency of Iceland has called for a police investigation. According to Icelandic law those found guilty of damaging the nature can face up to two years in jail.
This was not the first mishap that Land Rover suffered while test-driving the new Discovery Sport in Iceland.
