A team of ten bus drivers from the Metropolitan Bus Service, Strætó, came in first place in a Nordic competition of Nordic bus drivers. The competition, which has been held annually since 1976 pits teams of bus drivers from the Nordic countries against each other.
Jóhannes Svavar Rúnarsson, the CEO of Strætó, told the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service that the drivers had competed on a number of different obstacle courses. Two members of the Icelandic team won medals on their courses, while the overall performance of the team secured it the gold.
This is not the first time Iceland has won the gold in the Nordic bus driving championship, as the team has come in first place ten times. The last time Iceland won the championship was in 2013. The Icelandic National Broadcasting Service reported at the time that the Icelandic team had won a very convincing victory beating the Finnish team, which came in second and the Norwegian team, which came in third, by a wide margin.
