The Canadian escape artist Dean Gunnarson is currently in Iceland along with a production team. During his time in Iceland, Dean will attempt to free himself from a burning Viking ship located just outside Reykjavík harbour. The event will be filmed for a new Canadian-made television series named Escape or Die, which is set to premiere this spring.

“I’m going to be tied up to the mast and then they are going to light the boat on fire, with all these explosives on the boat. I’m going to have to get out of the ropes and untie myself and escape in less than two minutes or everything is going to blow up. The only way for me to escape is to jump through the fire and into the icy cold ocean, so it’s going to be fire and ice,” said Dean in a television interview with Channel 2 news.

Dean is of Icelandic descent and believes the Viking blood running through his veins gives him strength.

“There’s still Viking blood that flows through me, hopefully that will give me the courage and the strength to escape.”

Escape or Die is a 12 episode series which will follow Dean and his team as they begin preparations to travel to international locations and perform daring escapes such as the one in Reykjavík. During his extensive career Dean has performed in Italy, France, Columbia, Venezuela, Japan and Thailand to name a few.
