Calm winds and cold weather create a Holuhraun pollution blanket almost all over the country 1862

Today (Tuesday) calm winds are expected and cold weather all over the country according to the Icelandic Met Office (IMO). Under such circumstances, there is increased likelihood of high concentration of sulfur dioxide gas pollution from the Holuhraun eruption.

The southwest part of the country will be affected first and latere the areas north and east of the eruption. Volcanic haze will probably be seen widely in Iceland.

Tomorrow (Wednesday) the gas pollution is expected north and east of the eruption site.

You can view air pollution measurements from around Iceland here. Page is in Icelandic but each town/place is colour coded.

Live air pollution measurements from Reykjavík's monitoring are sites here.

Air Quality Index (AQI)

GREEN      Good
YELLOW   Moderate
ORANGE  Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups
RED            Unhealthy
PURPLE   Very Unhealthy
MAROON Hazardous

And here is an interactive map by the Icelandic Met Office (IMO) showing how the gases from the eruption in the centrel highlands will travel over Iceland in the next 36 hours.
