A British journalist has sent out an appeal to Icelanders, asking for help in finding a a replacement for a woolen hat he lost. The hat, which is made by the local outdoor-wear company 66°N, is no longer being manufactured. The journalist argues the hat has become a kind of symbol or trademark for the journalist.

Godfrey Hall, a British travel writer, wrote a letter to the local newspaper Morgunblaðið, asking its readers for help in finding a replacement for a 66°N woolen hat he purchased during a visit to Iceland some years ago. Hall explains that the hat means a lot to him, and that it has become inseparable from his public image, since he has appeared with the hat on his head on photos taken at locations all around the world.

When Hall lost the hat he intended to buy a new one from 66°N, only to discover that the company was no longer making or selling the hats. Hall therefore decided to try to appeal to the readers of Morgunblaðið, asking them to look in their cabinets, drawers and on their hat racks whether anyone might have an old hat of the same make and color which they are no longer using.

The hat in question was marketed under the name Katla. If anyone has a hat of this type, and would like to help Godfrey, they should contact him directly at [email protected].
