The British TV chef Jamie Oliver is planning to open a restaurant in downtown Reykjavík, the local news site visir.is reports. The restaurant would belong the the Jamie's Italian chain, which already operates 42 restaurants around the world.

According to the spokesman of the restaurant chain in Iceland, who spoke to visir.is the restaurant would open early next spring. If everything goes according to plan the restaurant would open in April or May 2017. The Jamie's Italian restaurants focus on simple and family friendly Italian food.

Jamie Oliver visited Iceland earlier this year with his wife, touring popular tourist attractions and eating at some local restaurants. According to Jamie's Instagram feed he was blown away by the aurora and the landscapes. But he was also impressed by the breakfast at the downtown café Bergsson (which is located just one block from Hótel Borg), and the re-development opportunities in Hallgrímskirkja Church, which he declared would make a great location for a pastry shop!
