The UK voting to leave the European Union could mean new opportunities for Iceland, according to Eiríkur Bergmann professor in political science and expert in European affairs.
“The countries that stand outside the EU, but are at the same time very connected to the union, countries such as Iceland, Norway and Switzerland, have now gained a very powerful ally. These countries could unite to work alongside the EU,” Eiríkur told the National Broadcasting Service.
In an interview with Morgunblaðið, Bjarni Benediktsson, minister of finance, said he believes the results will further discourage Iceland from entering the EU in the future.
