The Icelandic Road and Coastal Authority has re-opened the road leading from the ring-road, (highway 1) to Dettifoss waterfall. The road, (no 862) had been closed over the weekend due to extremely slick conditions due to heavy snowmelt. Other roads leading to the waterfall remain closed.
According to a post on the Facebook page of the Vatnajökull National Park, road 862, which runs along the west bank of the river Jökulsá á Fjöllum was re-opened around noon Monday. However, the road on the east bank of the river (no 864) remains closed, as does the stretch of 862 leading north from Dettifoss.
