As these fantastic photos show, surfing is not only chilling out in the sun in the warmer climates. The photos were captured on 6 December in Ólafsfjörður fjord by Guðný Ágústsdóttir, a resident in Ólafsfjörður town in North Iceland. According to Guðný the temperature was -8° C (17.6° F) but the surfers did not seem to mind the freezing conditions.
Guðný does not name the surfers but mentions that they are from the USA. We have a reason to belive that one member of the group is a legend in the world of surfing.
Our educated guess is that surfer and photographer Chris Burkard is in the group. He has been to Iceland many times before, chronicling various surfing exploits around the country.
The most obvious clue is Burkard’s Twitter account where he’s been posting numerous photos from Iceland during the last few days. You can see some of them embedded here below.

Burkard is a legend in the field of documenting extreme sports in the most trying conditions. We recently posted a glorious video by him filmed in Iceland showing world class athletes doing their thing. One of them is Chris Sharma, who has been described as the world's best rock climber.
We look very much forward to see the material Burkard will produce from this visit to Iceland.
