A body which was discovered on the banks of Hvítá river in South Iceland over the weekend is believed to be that of a Georgian asylum seeker who disappeared after he fell into Gullfoss waterfall.

According to a statement from the Police in South Iceland the body of a young male was discovered on the eastern bank of the river south of Brúarhlöð canyon. It was taken to Reykjavík where forensic scientists will determine the identity of the body. There is overwhelming evidence it is that of a 22 year old Georgian asylum seeker who disappeared after he was seen falling into Gullfoss waterfall on July 19.
A large scale search for the man was called off after three days, when it was determined there was no chance he had survived the fall into the waterfall.
