Body believed to be of traveller missing since October 13 found on Sólheimasandur beach 7272

Members of South Iceland ICE-SAR search and rescue companies who participated in the search for a US traveller who has been missing since October 13 believe that they have found the body of the man. The body was found by a glacial river which runs through Sólheimasandur black sand beach, Jökulsá á Sólheimasandi. The traveller´s rental car was found parked at a parking lot nearby.

Police and ICE-SAR in South Iceland, as well as one of the Coast Guard helicopters had been searching for the man since early yesterday morning. Police was notified by the man's relatives and friends on Monday evening that he had not been heard from since October 13. He had arrived in Iceland the day before for a brief stop-over on his way to Europe. The last time he had been seen was when he checked out of a hostel by Skógafoss waterfall in South Iceland at 6 am in the morning of October 13. He was scheduled to fly to Paris that same day.

Jaspinderjit Singh arrived in Iceland on October 12 for a brief stopover on his way to Paris. He rented a car and took a quick trip to South Iceland where he stayed at HI Hostel at Skógafoss waterfall.

He had booked a flight from Keflavík to Paris on October 13 and a return flight to the US from Europe on October 19. He posted photos of his visit to Iceland, but was last heard from or seen when he checked out of the hostel at 6 am on the morning of October 13. His family had began searching for him when he did not return from his trip, appealing to social media for help.

Jaspinderjt Last seen on October 13 at Skógafoss waterfall in South Iceland.

According to Police in South Iceland they were notified that Jaspinderjit was missing on Monday evening. Early Tuesday morning police began searching for his car, which was found at noon abandoned in a parking lot at the entrance to a walking path to the wreck of a DC3 plane on Sólheimasandur beach. The wreck is located less than 10 km (6 mi) to the east of Skógar. After the car had been located the search focused on Sólheimasandur beach. A body was found only a couple of hours later lying next to the glacial river. 

The body is believed to be that of Jaspinderjit Singh.

According to a statement from the Police there is no indication of foul play. A positive ID of the body and a determination of the cause of death will be made once the body has been transferred to Reykjavík where a full autopsy will take place.
