Þorvaldur Þór Björnsson with the Icelandic Institute of Natural History has overseen the preservation of the skeleton since the animal stranded on the beach in Skagi in August 2010. Countless hours of hard work were spent putting the skeleton back together, Þorvaldur Þór told Morgunblaðið newspaper.

The museum has carried out research on the whales in Skjálfandi bay, north Iceland, since 1998 and the exhibition allows guests to explore these magnificent creatures.
