The Blue Lagoon will close tomorrow, Sunday April 23, and remain closed until Thursday April 27. The reason for the temporary closure is construction work on the new five star hotel and health spa which are being added to the lagoon. A hot water main which will deliver geothermal sea-water to the spa is being laid down.
The closure of the Blue Lagoon should not disrupt the travel plans of any visitors, as entry to the lagoon must be booked in advance.
The hotel, which will be called Moss Hotel, is scheduled to be opened this fall. The spa will be called Lava Cove. A spokesman for the lagoon told the local newspaper Morgunblaðið that the construction of the hotel and spa were proceeding according rapidly and that they would be completed on schedule.
