Bike around Iceland’s second largest glacier 4432

Holidays do not necessarily have to mean R&R – they could include a gruelling 290-kilometre long (189 miles) bike race around Iceland’s second largest glacier. Glacier 360 is a three-day bike race that takes participants around Langjökull glacier, west Iceland, and through the astonishing landscapes of Iceland’s interior.

Local travel agency Made in Mountains organises the event. The company specialises in custom made cycling tours in Iceland and its team boasts extensive, in-depth knowledge in biking and mountaineering.

The Glacier 360 race takes place between 16 and 19 of August, beginning at the Geysir geothermal area and finishing at the Gullfoss waterfall. Teams are made up of two people and the track covers a diverse terrain: rugged gravel roads, steep climbs, dirt tracks, and river crossings.
The second day of the race is the most taxing as cyclists battle past Langjökull’s north face.

Snacks and drinks during the race and a post-race meal are included in the entry fee. An all-inclusive package is also available and includes additional three meals per day.
