Music festival in Reykholt
Reykholtshátíð is a classical music festival that takes place in Reykholt the last weekend of July each year. Reykholt is an important historic site and used to be the home of medieval poet and politician Snorri Sturluson.
Good times
The town festival “Á góðri stundu” takes place in Grundafjörður this week. The town is located on Snæfellsnes peninsula and is best known for its famous landmark Mount Kirkjufell. Among the many activities taking place during the weekend are a jigging competition on the harbour, magic show and exhibitions. The highlight of the weekend is a dance with Sálin hans Jóns míns, one of Iceland’s most beloved pop bands.
Got your goat?
The Icelandic Goat Association celebrates its two year anniversary on Saturday, and you are invited! Guests are welcomed at Háafell farm, the country’s largest goat farm, between 1 pm and 6 pm on Saturday. There will be cake, coffee, and a tour around the farm – all for free.
Casanova, a little billy-goat who played a large part in this seasons Game of Thrones, is among the many goats living on the farm. He first gained the Icelandic media’s attention after falling ill and having to wear custom made woollen sweaters in order to save his life.
An invigorating walk
Park rangers at Snæfellsjökull National Park offer free guided tours around the area every week until August 17th. The meeting point is the car park in Djúpalónssandur at 3 pm. The walk takes two hours.
