Fun with the children
“There are so many activities in the area one can do with children. I recommend the charming swimming pool in Lýsuhóll, just before you arrive at Hótel Búðir. The pool is filled with natural hot mineral water. Visit the Volcano Museum in Stykkishólmur or go whale-watching in Grundarfjörður. A walk between Hellnar and Arnarstapi is also full of adventures just waiting to happen.”

Way, way over there
The exhibition Way Way Over There opens tomorrow at 6pm in the old freezing plants in Hnúksnes, Dagverðarnes. The artist, Sara Gillies, explains: When I was a little girl I used to look through my binoculars over the Breidafjordur waters, to a mountain that was way way over there.
At the bottom of the mountain was a little, white house, and I always thought who lives there? It seemed so far away and so mystical to me. Then, last year, I met Elsa, and she took me her family’s country home. We drove there in the middle of the night surrounded by the mist. The next morning I woke up and went for a walk. It was then I realised I was in the magic house.”
There will be fun activities for children on location, some refreshments and live music.

Vikings galore
The Settlement Centre is a great place to visit when in the town of Borgarnes. The museum gives a good overview of the Viking settlement in Borgarnes and on Egilssaga, the tale of infamous Viking and poet Egill Skallagrímsson. The centre also includes a wonderful, little gift shop and a lovely restaurant.
The Settlement Centre is located on Brákarbraut 13 – 15 and is open all year 10am-9pm.
Guided tours around Dritvík
Park Rangers at Snæfellsnes National Park meet guests at the car park by Djúpalónssandur every Thursday at 3pm and guide them around the rough lava paths to Dritvík. The town was once one of the largest fishing stations in Iceland. The walk takes around two hours.
Market day in Kjós
The annual market day in Kjós, Hvalfjörður, takes place for the 8th time this Saturday. The festivities begin at noon and include a farmers market, a guided tour of the War Museum and boatrides on Meðalfellsvatn lake.
