Coffee and goats
Invite the family to lunch at the farm Bjarteyjarsandur in Hvalfjörður fjord. You will be greeted by a pet goat which enjoys hanging out in the restaurant and interacting with guests. So do the farm-pigs, hand-reared lambs, and the hens.
“I think this only makes the experience more memorable. We also allow visitors to participate in everyday tasks on the farm to a certain degree. Our youngest guests thoroughly enjoy that,” says farmer Arnheiður Hjörleifsdóttir.
Classical music
Sigrún Eðvaldsdóttir plays Bach’s Sonata in a-minor for violin at Gljúfrasteinn at 4 pm on Sunday. Gljúfrasteinn was the home and workplace of Halldór Laxness, the only Icelandic Nobel laureate, and is located in Mosfellsdalur, a twenty-minute drive from central Reykjavík.
Swim, swim, swim
Take a dip in the Sælingsdalur swimming pool or in Guðrún’s pool, a small stacked stone pool, located in Sælingsdalur valley, West Iceland. The Dalir museum is also located nearby.
Ice-cream at Erpsstaðir farm
“Erpsstaðir farm is among my favourite places to visit. They are known for their home-made ice-cream and cheese. Delicious!”

This is the West Iceland section of Best of Iceland This Week, the only Icelandic guide of its kind. New every week.
