No car? A local bus will get you there.
Strætó (the local bus company) has started it's summer schedule which includes trips outside of the city and all the way to the countryside. This is a fairly recent development by Strætó, and one of the cheapest options for long-distance travel in Iceland. In only four hours, you can get from Reykjavík to Hólmavík village by bus – and you don't have to pay for gas.
Scorcery and Witchcraft
Once you've made the decision to jump on board Strætó and ride all the way to Hólmavík village (see above), it's only logical to visit the Museum of Icelandic Scorcery and Witchcraft in Hólmavík village. A new exhibition was opened in the museum on May 18th showcasing scripts, books, and photographs from before 1900. The books and scripts have been carefully kept all these years and include collections of rhymes and jokes from the past. At the museum you can also find a replica of 'Necropants' that will bring, whoever wears them, an endless supply of money. However making one pair is the tricky, part as you have to skin a dead man below the waist and then sow the hide together. For those interested the pair at the museum can not be tried on.
French fishermen
An exhibition in Patreksfjörður will be opened this week. The title is 'Frönsku sjómennirnir og gamli tíminn' ('French fishermen and the days of yore'). The exhibit is open on request, and the projectionist can be contaced via phone. (+354.456.1140 and +354.892.5059)
