Skógar Folk Museum – a little treasure
Near the Skógarfoss waterfall is the Skógar Folk Museum which was founded in 1949 and houses an extensive collection of old artifacts from the area as well as a reconstructed turf farmhouses. Equally interesting is the museum’s 93 year old curator and founder, Þórður Tómasson. Þórður is known as an expert on the old Icelandic way of life, as he began collecting artifacts at the age of fourteen, often travelling from farm to farm to record stories from the region.
Concerts in a historical place
Sumartónleikar Skálholtskirkju is a series of concerts held each summer in Skálholskirkja church. For centuries, Skálholt was one of the most important places in Iceland and one of the country‘s two episcopal sees, along with Hólar in Hjaltadalur.
Lena Willemark and Voces Thules play Icelandic music dating back to medieval times as well as Swedish folk music on Thursday 17th of July at 8pm. On Friday the 18th of July the Bachsveitin í Skálholti will perform music from the baroque period. The concert begins at 8 pm.

Art in the Saga Centre in Hvolsvöllur
Siblings Guðrún and Kalman le Sage de Fontenay open the exhibition “Vision” in the Saga Centre in Hvolsvöllur on Saturday at 5pm. The exhibition, which is dedicated to their late father Jean Robert le Sage de Fontenay, is open until August 17th.
Dont' try this at home
Formula off-road is a form of off-road racing 4×4 motorsport, created in Iceland, by Icelanders. There are competitions scheduled during the summer months, and it just so happens that there's one this coming Saturday, July 12th. Just outside of Reykjavik, en-route to Selfoss, is a valley called Jósepsdalur. Engines will be roaring at 1pm. See video below.
