American culture festival, KEX Köntrí
Kex Hostel will celebrate all things American, starting July 4th. The American culture and music festival KEX Köntrí kicks off at 6pm and for the next three days guests can enjoy American food , beverages and music.
Breiðholt mural unveiling
The Reykjavík Art Museum invites Breiðholt neighborhood residents and other to the formally unveiling of the mural Feather by artist Sara Riel on the apartment building Asparfell 2-12 in Breiðholt on Saturday July 5th at 3pm. The work will be unveiled by Reykjavík mayor Dagur B. Eggertsson. Musicians Ólöf Arnalds and Skúli Sverrisson will perform.
GusGus “Mexican theme” evening at Boston
One of Iceland’s best musical exports, GusGus, will be celebrating their 8th album release named MEXICO. Part of the celebration will include snippets of the new album being played – and best of all the party will have a Mexican theme. The party starts at 7pm at the downtown bar Boston at Laugavegur 28b on the fourth of July. For those who come early there will be Mexican culinary delights provided by Santa Karamba as well as Mexican cocktails. To keep the party going the DJs Hunk Of A Man and President Bongo will provide the music.
Kría Brekkan concert
Kría Brekkan was once in famous local band Múm, but left the group in 2006. She now performs as a solo artist but has collaborated on albums with various band among the Slowblow, Mice Parade, Animal Collective and various other artists and bands. The concert begins at 9pm on the 4th of July at Mengi, a concert venue and gallery located at Óðinsgata 2.
British Performance Artist
The British performance artist Paul Kindersley will turn himself into a living exhibition by becoming a living sculpture at the Kunstschlager gallery on Rauðarárstígur 1 at 8pm on July the 5th. Paul is known for his performance art and he has a popular Youtube channel. In addition to being a living sculpture, Paul will shoot a live feature film and guests are welcome to view the performance and enjoy the ambience and pleasant happenings.
International Organ Summer in Hallgrímskirkja
During this summer, Hallgrímskirkja church has been offering concerts on a regular basis. On Saturday the 5th of July at 12 noon and on the 6th of July at 5pm, the French virtuoso Thierry Escaich will invite concert guests to a fascinating aural treat. Escaich will be playing musical pieces from the later half of the 18th century until contemporary times. Some of the artists he will interpret for guests include Vierne, Dupré and Franck. Come enjoy the wonderful ambience of Iceland’s biggest church and one of Reykjavík’s most largest and majestic buildings.
Bíó Paradís flea market
Independent cinema Bíó Paradís at Hverfisgata 54 will be hosting regular flea markets this summer during weekends and on the 5th and 6th of July there will be a flea market. Some of the things for sale include used clothes, vinyl records, toys books and other treasures – including possible souvenirs. While you are searching for a bargain or your next treasure you can have some popcorn and coffee. The market will be open from 11pm to 5pm.
Hear the Balkans in Iceland
The Icelandic band Skuggamyndir frá Býsans (appropriately named Shadowpictures from Byzantine) will be giving a concert to celebrate the release of their second album, Night without moon. A large part of their musical repertoire is playing folk music from the Balkans; mainly Greece, Serbia, Macedonia, Turkey and Bulgaria. So if you are keen on hearing Balkan music in in Iceland, check out the musical stylings of Skuggamyndir frá Býsans on Sunday the 6th at 9pm in Harpa concert hall. Neil Young and Crazy Horse concert
All Tomoorow's Parties (ATP) Iceland will be rolling out their musical buffet in Reykjavík by hosting Neil Young and Crazy Horse in Laugardagshöll, on Monday the 7th of July. Neil Young needs little introduction since he is a living musical legend however this is his first concert in Iceland, and Billy Talbot, Ralph Molina and Poncho Sampredo accompany him.
