Slut Walk
Starting in Toronto, Canada, back in 2011, the SlutWalk has turned into a world phenomenon, and Reykjavik is no exception. Being held for the fourth time in Reykjavik, participants of the walk, walk in protest against explaining or excusing rape by referring to any aspect of a woman’s (or a man’s) appearance and call for an end to rape culture. On Saturday, July 26th, you can show your support by joining the walk down Skólavörðustígur from Hallgrímskirkja church at 2pm. The walk will come to a stop at Austurvöllur where there will be organized spoken word and musical acts.

For social-dance enthusiast, the Icelandic nightclubs may not be too friendly of a scene as their dance floors are usually packed with ‘jumpers and bumpers’. But fear not, because this Saturday night, social-dancers of Reykjavik will be coming together at Austur Club at 10pm in the evening and dancing until the hardcore clubbers infiltrate the dance floor. Whether you enjoy West Coast, Boogie Woogie, or Swing, the dancer within you will thank you for having given this a shot.
A Festival of Laughs
The Iceland Comedy Festival’s second and third evenings take place tonight, Friday (July 25th) and tomorrow night, Saturday. Both Friday’s and Saturday’s comedy evenings will be hosted at Bar 11 in downtown Reykjavik, but Friday’s entrance fee (ISK1,000) will all be donated to the Children’s Hospital in Iceland – in other words, you can have a laugh and feel good about yourself whilst doing it. On Saturday, the Canadian, Dean Young, will perform alongside Icelandic comics, all of whom will perform in English. Tickets can be bought at midi.is and both evenings kick off at 9:30pm.
Swap ‘til you drop
Did you come to Iceland with all your warmest clothes because you heard it was cold over here, even in summer time? Are you now regretting it and wishing you had something a little lighter to wear? Well, the Swap ‘til you drop market may just be the solution for you! At LOFT Hostel on Bankastræti, you can bring your clothes (and books!) and swap them with other people, totally free of charge. So whether you’re looking for something warmer, something cooler, or a new book to read on your travels, this July 30th, Wednesday evening market, could be your lucky stop.
A musically visual event
The well-known Icelandic musician, Snorri Helgason, will be performing at a perfectly unique concert at Bíó Paradís Cinema on Hverfisgata on Thursday, July 31st. Performing alongside him will be the artist, Sara Riel, but she will be projecting her artwork onto a movie screen during Snorri’s concert in one of the theatres.
The event is free of charge and starts at 9pm.
