ATP Festival
The talk of the town this weekend is the ATP Music Festival, taking place in Keflavik. Just a few minutes from the airport, masses of music fans have gathered to hear popular artists such as Interpol and Portishead, among other local Icelandic banks. This is the 2nd annual event that has taken place in Iceland with the festival occupying the facilities at the former NATO base that the Americans left behind in 2006. Festival organizers describe the event as an “… anti-festival that washes away all the pre-conception of such a music event.” Garnering only positive reviews from its first full day, the rest of the festival is sure to rock your socks off!

Volcano Tours
If you are making your way to Iceland as a tourist, one key attraction that everyone wants to experience first-hand is the volcanic activity taking place on the island. Volcano Tours allow visitors an opportunity to see and feel the effects of a volcano on full day excursions taking place at Volcano garden on the Reykjanes Peninsula. The tour will take you on a jeep adventure into the lava fields around the Blue Lagoon as well as the Krýsuvík Geothermal area. See volcanic craters, hot springs, and caves on this truly authentic, Icelandic experience.

Kirkjuvogsbás Beach
What happens when you clash the cold water of the North Atlantic Ocean and the piping hot steam of the geothermal springs? You get a perfect mixture of Icelandic relaxation on the beautiful beaches of Kirkjuvogsbás. The beach has long been an undercover tourist destination for those willing to embark on an adventure. Located near the Blue Lagoon and the Svartsengi power plant, just 20 minutes away from the Keflavik Airport, make sure to stop by the beach on a Icelandic summer day to test out the water or simply to take in the breathtaking views.

This is the Reykjanes Peninsula section of Best of Iceland This Week, the only Icelandic guide of its kind. New every week.
