Reykjavík Bacon Festival
Obviously, this food festival may not attract vegetarians – nonetheless, this gastronomical feast will cater to many other people. Because even though bacon is the main treat at the festival, there will be a farmer’s market along with fish products. Restaurants such as Hótel Holt, Roadhouse and others will offer bacon inspired treats for guests. While you are feasting on all the wonderful food, you can listen to the Icelandic band Brim that will be playing during the festival. The festival starts at 14:00 on Saturday the 16th of August and lasts until 17:00 and is at Skólavörðustígur.

Danish inspired town festival
Danskir dagar (Danish Days) is the name of an annual town festival in Stykkishólmur, West Iceland, started yesterday (August 14th). The festival celebrates the town‘s Danish roots and this is the 20th time it takes place. Including the many activities taking place all over the town during that weekend are a car-boot sale, concerts and a family show with Jón Arnór, a seven year old magician who gained much attention after reaching the finals in Iceland‘s Got Talent.

Westfjords
The swimming pool at Krossnes
With water running down the hillsides from hot springs, the swimming pool at Krossnes is like no other. Like the Drangsnes hot tubs, it’s located right on the beach, making the view of the midnight sun absolutely breathtaking. Often, baby seals can be spotted playing around in the ocean.

Music festival
Gæran Music Festival takes place in Sauðárkrókur this weekend. The main stage is located in the warehouse of Loðskinn, a local tannery factory.
The line-up this year is rather impressive and includes electronic artist Úlfur Úlfur, hip hop group Reykjavíkurdætur, Sóldögg, Klassart and Kiriyama Family to name only a few. Tickets can be purchased on site.

A 10-day family festival at Egilsstaðir and Fljótsdalshérað with great variety of events every day, a full week of exhibitions, concerts, celebrations and gatherings with a little bit of carnival style. The festival starts with a Carnival Party which every townie participates in, guests will enjoy and are encouraged to be involved! The festival is a mixture of culture, art, traditional cooking, sport activities and other happenings with the participation of the whole community and guests coming from other areas of Iceland.

The Westman Islands
Experience Iceland with a day-trip to the Westman Islands. Only accessible by flight or a 30 minutes boat trip, the Westman Islands will offer you a change from your daily life, and allow you to see a different side of Iceland. The town is home to around 5,000 people, primarily made up of employees connected to the fishing industry. Reykjanes peninsula
Reykjanes Nature Reserve
The Reykjanes Nature Reserve is about 300 square km in size and is by far the largest nature reserve in Iceland. It is bordered in the east by the districts of Gullbringa and Árnessýsla and in the north it connects with the Bláfjöll nature reserve. The western borders of the nature reserve are west of Undirhlíðar and Núpshlíðarháls hill and a straight line to the sea at Selatangar, a former fishermens´ station. The southernmost borders follow the coastline. The nature reserve is also home to Kleifarvatn lake, a great site unspoiled by man. The land is very hilly, two very distinctive ridges cut through the landscape. Some say that parts of the reserve look similar to the moon because of the desolate nature of area.
