Watch puffins and other birds from a special hideout
The Borgarfjörður eystri fjord area provides a number of excellent facilities for bird-watching. More specifically, a special hideout viewing location near the harbour of the town allows visitors to view a wide variety of unique bird species native to the area. At Hafnarhólmi, a spot located by the small-boat harbour, visitors can enjoy amazing conditions for bird-watching, including close-up views of puffins and kittiwakes of the seagull family.

Test your singin skills in the Tvísöngur sound sculpture
Tvísöngur is a site-specific sound sculpture by German artist Lukas Kühne, located on a mountainside above the town of Seyðisfjörður. It's in a quiet area with a great view of the fjord. It consists of five interconnected concrete domes of different sizes. The heights of the domes are between two and four meters and they cover an area of about 30 square meters. Each dome has its own resonance that corresponds to a tone in the Icelandic musical tradition of five-tone harmony, and works as a natural amplifier to that tone. You can experiment with their acoustic sensation. Admission is free.

The star of the east Iceland waterfalls
The hike up to Hengifoss waterfall is newly opened and people are hiking there every day now. At 128 meters (420 ft) is second the highest waterfall in Iceland. it has been called the star of the many waterfalls of East Iceland. The hike takes 2-3 hours (the round trip) and is quite challenging, rated 4 out of 5 in difficulty.

This is the East Iceland section of Best of Iceland This Week, the only Icelandic guide of its kind. New every week.
