Music festival in an old fish factory
Bræðslan Music Festival the village of Borgarfjörður Eystri continues to be one of the most popular events every year in Iceland with tickets having sold-out months ago. The main event, each year, is a big concert on Saturday night, but whilst you may have missed your chance to get tickets to the main event, you can still enjoy the festival by attending smaller events leading up to Saturday. Bands and musicians performing this year include Pollapönk, Emiliana Torrini, and Lára Rúnars.
The Tvísöngur sound sculpture
Tvísöngur is a site-specific sound sculpture by German artist Lukas Kühne, located on a mountainside above the town of Seyðisfjörður. It consists of five interconnected concrete domes of different sizes. The heights of the domes are between two and four meters and they cover an area of about 30 square meters. Each dome has its own resonance that corresponds to a tone in the Icelandic musical tradition of five-tone harmony, and works as a natural amplifier to that tone. You can test your singing skills and experiment with their acoustic sensation. Admission is free.
Guided tours at Kárahnjúkar dam
Fljótsdalur Station is Iceland’s largest power station. It produces a quarter of all electricity generated in the country, from a 420 meter vertical drop of water originating in the great Vatnajökull glacier.
Guided tours of the Kárahnjúkar dam is offered on wednesdays and saturdays from 14-17.
