Family Festival at Egilsstaðir and Fljótsdalshérað
A 10-day family festival at Egilsstaðir and Fljótsdalshérað with great variety of events every day, a full week of exhibitions, concerts, celebrations and gatherings with a little bit of carnival style. The festival starts with a Carnival Party which every townie participates in, guests will enjoy and are encouraged to be involved! The festival is a mixture of culture, art, traditional cooking, sport activities and other happenings with the participation of the whole community and guests coming from other areas of Iceland.

Síreksstaðir Farm
Sireksstadir is a farm on the outskirts of Sunnudalur Valley which provides a great spot to get away from it all. Located in a peaceful part of East Iceland, you can enjoy the serenity of the surroundings while also seeing some Icelandic wildlife. Known for it's sheep farming, cattle raising and tourist activities, Síreksstaðir farm also provides great living accomodations for groups of up to 7 people. Take a dip in the hottub or go trout fishing in nearby Hofsá.  Fishing permits are available on the farm Syðri-Vík.

Hengifoss Waterfall
Located about a thirty minute drive from Egilsstaðir, Hengifoss is a waterfall that reminds me of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. The drive in is a scenic one that will keep the kids interested as you approach the falls. The walk to reach the waterall is about 2.5km long each way and will give you a good workout as you climb to the destination. If you want a more official experience, you can take the Hengifoss Tour leaving each day at around 1430. The tour guides will help you navigate the climb as well as provide notable information about the surroundings.

This is the East Iceland section of Best of Iceland This Week, the only Icelandic guide of its kind. New every week.
