Neskaupsstaður Neistaflug music and family festiva
Neskaupsstaður will host Neistaflug music and family festival this upcoming bank-holiday-weekend featuring over 40 bands and other acts. The town itself has only 1420 inhabitants, the largest population in the East Fjords. However, flocks of people are expected to come to the town in hopes of rocking out with some of Iceland´s best bands. Join the masses that will be celebrating the bank-holiday-weekend in style. Among artists that are performing are Icelandic bands Dimma and Buff and Iceland's most popular solo musician Páll Óskar.

Fáskrúðsfjörður and Puffin Cave
Fáskrúðsfjördur is a town in the center of the east fjords and is home to one of the few woodlands in Iceland. Just driving along the coast is a scenic adventure that is worth experiencing, however, if you are looking for specifics you can visit the unique wonder of Puffin Cave sheltering thousands of puffins and a spactacular view from the hollow island of Skrúður. While most of the high concentrations of puffins are on the west coast of the country, puffin cave is the best place to see Iceland's exotic bird on the east coast.

Kárahnjúkar Hydropower Plant and Dam
Located in East Iceland near Mount Kárahnjúkur, Alcoa's geothermal power plant is stationed in a breathtaking, scarcely populated part of Iceland's wilderness. Using power from the Jökulsá á Dal and Jökulsá í Fljótsdal Rivers streaming from the glacier Vatnajökull, the power plant uses the energy produced from the rivers and reservoirs near the area in order to power Alcoa's aluminum smelter. A tour guide is located at the Kárahnjúkar Dam and offers guided tours of the development and nature of the area on Wednesdays and Saturdays between 14:00 and 17:00.

This is the East Iceland section of Best of Iceland This Week, the only Icelandic guide of its kind. New every week.
