Earlier this month a duo of Spanish childhood friends, DJ Javier Fernández Valiño, who has been living in Iceland for the past three years and his friend and rapper Marcos de Juan uploaded an aerial video, called “Cold Sun”, taking you on an aerial tour of Reykjavík in the cold winter sun.
Javier told Iceland Insider the two had shot the video a little more than a week ago, “14 and 15 December, around those days. Maybe the 12-13.” His childhood friend Marcos was visiting, staying with Javier for 3-4 months, recording a new album. The two grew up together in Madrid, Spain, and both embarked upon careers in music. Javier ending up in Iceland. He pretty excited about all the attention his video had gotten: It was recently featured on the local news site visir.is.
“I studied image and sound engineering in Barcelona for 2 years,” but he had also been DJ-ing, something which he told us he originally learned from his brother. Three years ago Javier moved to Iceland.
“I’m a professional dancer and I have a small studio, where I do music and videos for other artists, as well as myself. I’m planning on making more videos of Iceland. This is the first!”
Javier, who was the Icelandic champion in Latin dances in 2014 and came in second place in 2015, works as a Latin dance instructor and DJ. He loves Reykjavík, even in the cold and dark winter, something he wanted to get across in the video:
“We called the video cold sun, because we wanted to show winter in Reykjavík is cold, but gorgeous. And when you think about the sun, you think about something hot, with warm colours. But we wanted to show that Reykjavík and Iceland, once again break the rules in this regard. The sun rises and shines on the city, but the light-essence of the city is this cold tone, cold colours.”
