BBC gets Iceland's next president's name wrong 5044

The BBC spotted Guðni Th Jóhannesson, Iceland’s next president, among Iceland supporters at yesterday’s match against France.

“Gudni Thor Johannesson drew a huge cheer from the fanzone in Reykjavík when screens showed him in the stands at the Stade de France,” read the caption.

However, as the National Broadcasting Service points out, the “Th” in Guðni’s name does not stand for Thor but for Thorlacius.

Guðni was elected president on 25 June and will be sworn into office in August.
